A Session on unhealthy eating patterns with Business Next

A webinar was conducted by the IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) secretariat for employees of Business Next, (one of the Pledged Partner for I4N), under their Nutrition Wellness series on the adversity of unhealthy eating patterns. The major eating patterns were discussed with the participants. The adverse effects of unhealthy eating, along with its impact on the human body were also highlighted. The employees were educated on the types of foods to be consumed for improving immune functioning and avoiding binge eating. Apart from this, participants were also guided on the eating principles for daily life in relation to a wholesome diet. A short video clip emphasizing the consumption of HFSS foods (in moderation) was played for a better grasp of the theme.

A session on the theme “Women’s Health and Dietary Habits” was conducted by the IMPACT4Nutrition secretariat with TATA Power DDL, one of the pledged partners of I4N. The session was attended by the ABHA workers and they were made aware of healthy eating habits with respect to bodily changes, age-related problems, dietary patterns, etc. Common problems like anemia, bone and reproductive health, etc were also discussed among the participants. Information was also shared on different foods that can be included for combating eminent disorders, emphasizing the importance of diet diversity. Some uncommon nutrients like Vitamin B6 and Omega 3 were also discussed during the presentation.

Bethel Hospital is a 20 years old multi-specialty hospital located at the heart of Coimbatore city. Specializing in Pregnancy and Infant care, Dr Sheela Rajapandian, Dr Nirupadaya Rajapandian and Dr Rajapandian Sundarapandian are the active directors of Bethel Hospital.

The hospital has 100+ employees and around 200 visitors, visiting the hospital on a daily basis. As part of this engagement activity I4N Secretariat shared the importance of good nutrition in our daily life to the hospital staff and displayed nutrition awareness posters at the prime patient waiting areas within the hospital. The larger objective of this awareness campaign is to spread good nutrition education to the visiting patients and hospital staff. On Nov 16th 2023, IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) secretariat engaged with Mazenet Solution, one of the Pledged Partners of I4N in organizing a nutrition awareness activity. Mazenet Solution is a 22 years old IT company established in 2001 with a vision to bridge the gap between the demands of the IT industry and the available talent pool by empowering individuals with the required skills by integrating innovative ideas, cutting-edge technologies, and competent skills to develop a readily deployable workforce.
As part of this engagement activity I4N Secretariat shared the importance of good nutrition and work life balance and displayed nutrition awareness posters in the cafeteria. Mazenet has 110 employees and around 200 visitors including clients, customers, job seekers, interns and trainees who dines in the cafeteria on a daily basis.The larger objective of this awareness campaign is to spread good nutrition education and emphasis on leading healthy active life.

An online session on ‘Healthy Diets and its Importance’ was organized by the IMPACT4Nutrition (I4N) secretariat with Stemrobo, one of the pledged partners for I4N. The session included basic themes like the importance of a balanced diet, , principles of hydration, and the concept of a modern-day Indian thali etc… Along with this, the participants were made aware on the various principles of food safety, important aspects of cooking food, and how to make meals more nutritious. Session on Workplace Nutrition at Okinawa Autotech

A session on the importance of nutrition at the workplace was conducted at Okinawa Autotech, one of the Pledged Partners of IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N). Session was conducted by the I4N secretariat at their factory situated at Bhiwadi, Alwar district of Rajasthan. The managerial staff from different verticals attended the session and were made aware about the importance of nutrition at the workplace. The employees were guided on eating right along with maintenance of hydration. The concept of portion control and limited intake (of Fats, Salts, and Sugars) was discussed with supporting and engaging videos, emphasizing the consistency of behavior change.

It was an interactive session with several questions asked by participants including- water intake requirements, what kind of fats to be consumed, and how many calories to burn etc. Apart from this, practical considerations for healthy living were also discussed.

Mr.Amrendra Kumar Singh, Senior General Manager and Plant Head at Okinawa Autotech said “The session proved to be very useful for us and we would be delighted to continue this further for an empowered workforce”

The Rashtriya Poshan Maah is being celebrated during the month of September every year under POSHAN Abhiyaan (PM’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment). The objective of the Poshan Maah is to ensure community mobilisation and bolster people’s participation for addressing malnutrition amongst young children, and women and to ensure health and nutrition for everyone. This engagement organised in continuation the National Poshan Maah celebrations.

In continuation with the Poshan Maah 2023 engagements, the I4N secretariat conducted a session on “Millets and its relation with Sustainable health” for the staff and volunteering members (WLC) of TATA Power-DDL, one of the pledged partners for I4N . In continuation to Poshan Maah celebrations, a session on healthy dietary practices was organized at Epicurean Hospitality, one of the pledged partner of IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) on 16th September 2023,. Emphasis was laid on the vitality of wholesome well-being, balanced diet, the concept of Tiranga Thali, importance of sustainable practices, etc. The session also included a recipe demonstration on millets which included Bajra Salad and Jowar Pancakes which was appreciated by all participants.

Workshop on “Workplace Nutrition” with members of the Manesar Industries Welfare Association (MIWA)

IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) in association with Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and MIWA organized a workshop for regional business owners on – “Creating a Better Workplace, One Bite at a Time,” on August 12th, 2023. The workshop was hosted at Epicurean Hospitality Services Pvt Limited, one of the pledged partners of I4N, and was attended by over 40 participants.

Shubhrajyoti Bhowmik, Puneet Mital, Abhishek Kishore, Jyoti Jyotsana, and Snehal Kochar from the I4N secretariat, Biju Mushahary & Aishwarya from GAIN were present during the workshop.

The workshop emphasized the importance of workforce nutrition and its direct benefits to the employers and the employee workforce on health and well-being. Several examples of contribution from the private sector on nutrition through Assets, CSR, or Employee Volunteering were given by the team, highlighting the fact that better nutrition at the workplace directly impacts employee productivity, better employee retention, and the overall bottom line of the business. An emphasis was also placed on using and consuming fortified foods to meet daily nutritional demands and requirements.

Mr. Rajat Dogra, Managing Director at Epicurean Hospitality, and Mrs. Shalu Dogra emphasized the importance of nutrition in a subsidized meal provided at the workplace and how it can be beneficial for the overall productivity of the employees, and the overall bottom line for the businesses.

A webinar was taken with Business Next on 17.8.23 under their Wellness Next program vertical and the theme was Reproductive health and its importance in women. The female employees were educated on the dietary strategies, the leading causes behind the inflammation, the precipitating factors behind the symptoms, etc. Apart from this, the dietary regimen along with the remedies, and emphasis on a healthy lifestyle was also discussed for better propagation. The audience was very interactive.

Knowledge sharing session with TATA Power- DDL, ABHA workers, celebrating “World Breastfeeding Week”

In lieu of International World Breastfeeding Week, which is observed from 1st to 7th August 2023 worldwide, I4N secretariat conducted a workshop with the 150+ ABHA workers, at TATA Power-DDL at Delhi. The session covered information on a few important elements of growth of the infant such as appropriate time for breastfeeding, symptoms of inadequate nutrition, what foods to avoid during the lactation stage, etc. Apart from this, topics related to adequate time for the introduction of complementary feeds, sample foods and gauging the needs of the child was also discussed (in general). Knowledge was also imparted related to the milestones which determine the growth and development of the child.

The focus of the session was to educate women on the critical needs of taking care of the child as well as for the lactating mother.A video clip released by the National Nutrition Mission was displayed for a better understanding of the theme.The participating women found the session very engaging which demystified several of their myths. The session commenced with remarks from Mrs. Tripathi, Asst. GM, TATA – DDL stressing on the inexplicable role of women being the epicenter of each family, universally.

World Breastfeeding Week celebrated with Ranvik Exports, Manesar

To spread awareness during World’s Breastfeeding week, a session was conducted with the women workforce at Ranvik Exports, 360 (one of the pledged partners of I4N) by the I4N secretariat.

Women employees were trained on the importance of breastmilk, which is crucial for the growth of a child. The benefits of breastmilk along with its nutritional factors were discussed amongst the women. The importance of colostrum, why breastmilk should be given, its beneficial effects on the child, and important pointers like initiation within an hour of delivery were also explained.

The I4N secretariat held a workshop with the working staff of MadhuGroup ConQuerent Manesar. The session theme of the workshop was “Importance of Nutrition @ the Workplace”. The workshop was conducted at the factory site where over 100 employees were educated on a healthy diet and its effect at the workplace. The employees were educated on what foods to eat, what to avoid, smart snacks, the effects of unhealthy fats, the essential components of a healthy diet, etc., and last but not least, the effect on bodily functions. The session concluded with a resolution to bring a powerful change through the adoption of Best Dietary Practices starting with self, family, and the workplace in the presence of the CEO, Mr. Bharat Goel. The session was taken in Hindi.

A nutrition awareness training session was conducted with SIEMA and various pledged Partners of I4N from Southern India like Mahendra Pumps, Atnu Pumps, Suguna Pumps, Ellen Pumps, and Supertech industries, through a webinar. The Indian thali concept was highlighted, and the importance of a wholesome meal, the different food groups, and their functions were also explained. I4N would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to SIEMA for investing their trust in I4N as a meaningful initiative and directing their efforts towards driving this change.

IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) secretariat conducted an employee engagement workshop at Ranvik Exports for Three Sixty, one of the I4N esteemed pledged partners and a member of MIWA.

The session was focused on educating 200+ factory workers about the “Importance of Nutrition @ Workplace”. The employees were educated about the crucial elements of a balanced diet, the major 3 colors to be involved in a thali, the importance of proportions in a meal, water intake and other crucial factors like sleep etc.

An engaging online session was conducted for the employees of Business Next. The theme of the session was ‘Nutrition @Workplace’ and participants were made aware of the health and wellbeing component in relation to workforce nutrition. The concept of employer-employee wellness was also discussed.

The benefits of holistic health and the sustainable shifts toward dietary patterns were explained to the participants. The concept of hidden hunger, micronutrient deficiency, and sustainable eating patterns was discussed. Along with this, simple tips for enhancing productivity, and quick recommendations on smart snacks were also provided to the participants.

Towards I4N continued commitment to further strengthen SRF existing CSR program on Nutrition, I4N Secretariat conducted an online session with SRF Poshan Mitras for their Chennai location, as a capacity building initiative on good nutrition.

Business Next – Mother’s Day Special

Employee Engagement session was held with Business Next on Mother’s Day. It was a very interactive and engaging session with the working women. Topics like- balanced diet, work-life balance, nutrition during menopause, menstrual phases, and pregnancy etc was also discussed amongst the Participants. Importance of Nutrients for mother’s well-being like Iron, Calcium etc was discussed. Apart from this, how to eat right tips were also elaborated and a short movie clip was played. Viewers from Business Next’s Pune and Mumbai Team were also the part of the session.

Business Next – Online Session on Safe foods + superfoods = a healthy immune system

In I4N’s continued efforts towards employee engagement, a webinar was conducted with one of the recent I4N pledged partners- Business Next recently. The topic of discussion was Safe foods + superfoods = a healthy immune system. The session was lead by Snehal Kochhar, certified Dietician and core team member, I4N secretariat and was organised as a part of Business Next’s wellness vertical. I4N secretariat is further strengthening Business Next’s vision towards employee wellness through disseminating knowledge of good nutrition to its employees. In addition to the presentation, a video tutorial on Safe foods (by WHO) and a game link (by NIN) were also played to keep the session interactive.

The session discussed various local superfoods which are seasonal and the benefits of common ones like jamun/java plum, watermelons, sprouts, moringa leaves, etc. In addition to their nutritional benefits, common usage of the foods was also highlighted.
Apart from this, various methods to enhance their nutritional values were also discussed and the audience was trained on ways to implement them into a healthy lifestyle.
Several takeaways for strengthening the immune system were discussed.
Over 105 attendees were directly befitted from the session.

Association with SIEMA – Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association

Poor nutritional status of employees costs companies marked losses, as outputs suffer with deteriorating productivity and increased absenteeism. According to a recent study by Chatham House and Vivid Economics, businesses in developing economies like India stand to lose up to $850 billion a year if immediate interventions are not undertaken. Many workplaces may have moved to the digital space, but employee health and productivity remain equally important.
I4N’s Prime focus is to encourage employee workforce adopt healthy lifestyle and nutrition habits. IMPAct4Nutrition is very delighted to associate with SIEMA (Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association). The Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association (SIEMA) was founded in the year 1952, with a sole aim of representing and protecting the interests of Micro, Small, Medium and Large Scale Engineering Industries of this Region.

As an I4N initiative in its outreach vertical, from the Ank foundation, a webinar session was held with Urban Company and its partner employees on 5.4.23 (Wednesday). It was our first engagement (according to the Hindi calendar) and what better start than to conduct a session in Hindi ! It was an initial session with the organisation and the total number of participants accounted for 103. The language of instruction was Hindi. The theme for an initial discussion was “Good nutrition leads to a healthier future”. The opening remarks were given by Jyoti ji from the I4N team and Ms. Sampada Bharadwaj served as the host from the serving organisation.

To celebrate the occasion of International Women’s day and mark the power of womanhood, a session on nutrition was taken on 7.03.23 with Innovative view India at their office situated in Noida. The I4N team addressed a group of > 50 women, aged 25-45 years in the respective session. It was one of the first sessions with the women workforce. The theme for the session was: “Better nutrition=productive future”. The session was commenced by Jyoti Jyotsana (Program Manager, I4N) She addressed the audience by highlighting on why nutrition is crucial for women at large, and more importantly pressing on why it has become the need of the hour, simultaneously. She briefed about the Impact4nutrition agenda and how these issues and more can be brought to the forefront by proper dissemination through the usage of the ACE card model. This session highlighted the E FOR ‘Employee Engagement/education’ vertical through effective interaction and an authentic dissemination of information around health and nutrition.

An initial engagement session was taken with the Favcy team through an online mode.
The discussion started with the game of a crossword puzzle as an ice-breaker.
The meeting covered various topics related to nutrition and healthy lifestyle. The introduction discussed the brand agnostic platform being incubated by UNICEF, CII, Tata Trust, and other organizations to promote nutrition for the wellness of employees, stakeholders, and communities. The importance of daily steps and exercise for a healthy lifestyle was discussed, with a minimum of 5,000 steps being recommended.
The meeting also emphasized the significance of healthy eating and a balanced diet for overall health and prevention of non-communicable diseases, especially in India where the prevalence of overweight and obesity is high. The components of a balanced diet, the concept of hidden hunger, and the importance of micronutrients for a balanced diet were also discussed.
A simple video highlighting the importance of health was shared. It was a very engaging session wherein the team actively participated and answered appropriately. Questions like BMI formula and what to eat during work, etc were also discussed.
Finally, the meeting highlighted the importance of a balanced diet, good fats, and key vitamins and minerals for building immunity, with a recommendation to include millets in the daily diet.
The session ended with a feedback form suggesting ideas from the audience.

An online introductory session on nutrition was conducted by Ank India foundation with Spandan Society. Spandan is the CSR wing of Innovatiview, India. It operates from the Delhi-NCR area. The audience was made aware about the need for nutrition, why it is important to have a balanced diet, the major types of nutrients necessary for immunity building, the types of foods to be taken for a sound body, etc. The audience was also educated about basic hygiene practices, how to maintain that effectively, methods to have safe food and understanding of food labels. The mode of conduction was virtual. A 90 minutes session was conducted through virtual mode. The session was made very interesting through pictorial representations. The session was basically kept interactive for better engagement with the present audience. The audience was educated on various parameters like:

  • Nutrition and its importance
  • Important elements of a balanced diet
  • The need for hygiene
  • Use of safe food

The response was very positive by the students and the audience was very attentive. Several queries posed by the audience are elaborated below:
How can dark circles be lightened?
Till what duration can the vegetables be kept in the refrigerator?
All the queries were explained to the audience satisfactorily and the session proved to be very helpful.

To sensitize the employees towards nutrition, an online prelim session was conducted with Skidos where the employees were educated about nutrition and its importance. The theme of presentation was good nutrition and healthy diets. The session was taken through virtual mode.

The session started with relevant statistical data to represent. After that, importance of nutrition was highlighted. Along with this, different nutrients necessary for an optimal diet was elaborated. The food pyramid was explained and the 3 most important colours which make an appropriate thali was highlighted. The type of foods necessary for growth, development and repair was also made known to the audience.

The necessity of water was also highlighted. Food safety measures were also explained in brief. Simple and effective household measures for maximum nutrient preservation was elaborated.

The employees were briefed about the importance of nutrition and promotion of a healthy lifestyle. The session started with some basic questions on nutrition and why is it important. The session was taken in 2 rounds to accommodate all the employees willing to take part in the discussion. After a robust discussion, certain queries were also entertained from the audience. A quiz round was also conducted wherein certain daily use items were displayed and the audience was asked about the recipes they could make at home through those items. They were also educated about the different components of diet, the elements of a balanced diet, proportions of a balanced diet, role of certain nutrients, etc. Apart from this, some nutritious recipes were shared and the audience was also engaged through video display for effective utilization.

I4N Secretariat (ANK Foundation); therefore, visited their kitchen to understand the food menu being provided to the workers. After the discussion, it was decided that the existing menu was revamped for a day and changes were notably implemented.

HCL : Workplace Nutrition session conducted at HCL Technologies

Context

Malnutrition is the leading cause of compromised adult health in India. Diet has a major influence on the health of an individual with a poor diet leading to malnutrition in terms of both, overweight and underweight.
The workplace has been recognized internationally as an appropriate setting for health promotion. Taking this into consideration, IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N), a public-private partnership platform, has been created to develop tools and implement roadmaps for wellness programs in nutrition.
I4N is a knowledge and collaboration center on nutrition and provides a business link to the larger social movement around POSHAN Abhiyaan Jan Andolan where the Government of India (GoI) has recognized the private sector as a major driver and enabler for impactful change within its ecosystem. IMPAct4Nutrition and HCL Foundation are collaborating to offer a nutrition wellness program to corporate employees of HCL to promote nutrition awareness and build a cadre of Nutrition Ambassadors to achieve the POSHAN Abhiyaan goals in a simple, smart, and engaging way for workplace nutrition.

The session titled ‘Nutrition at the Workplace – Your well-being is your riches’ was held on Friday the 25th of November for the technology employees at HCL. A total of 51 employees participated with great energy and enthusiasm. The presentation used interactive activities, such as one on one dialogue, quizzes, and polls. etc. This employee nutrition and wellness session aimed to inspire HCL employees to make positive lifestyle changes to optimize their potential and energy levels in the workplace.
The session was delivered by Ms Shweta Patel, who is the Assistant Professor, Department of Foods and Nutrition, The Faculty of Family and Community Sciences at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. She has over 11 years of experience in research and teaching. She has been conducting training and nutrition health education sessions for different beneficiary groups.

Paramount promoting a good nutrition lifestyle through it’s Eat Smart Initiative

Context

The workplace is an important lever to enhance nutrition well-being and nudge behaviour change towards a good nutrition lifestyle. Workers’ health is a prime focus for many leading apparel manufacturing companies, with few of them even implementing interesting ideas in their factories.

The workplace has been recognized internationally as an appropriate setting for health promotion. Taking this into consideration, IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N), a public-private partnership platform, has been created to develop tools and implement roadmaps for wellness programs in nutrition. I4N is a knowledge and collaboration centre on nutrition and provides a business link to the larger social movement around POSHAN Abhiyaan Jan Andolan where the Government of India (GoI) has recognized the private sector as a major driver and enabler for impactful change within its ecosystem.

Paramount hosting Nutrition Learning Sessions

Well-known Delhi-based apparel export house Paramount Products is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles among its employees. The firm is putting thrust on the proper nutrition of its workers. I4N and Paramount have collaborated to offer a nutrition wellness program to employees to promote nutrition awareness and build a cadre of Nutrition Ambassadors to achieve the POSHAN Abhiyaan goals in a simple, smart, and engaging way for workplace nutrition.

Expected Outcome

The company has noticed that now its workers have started choosing sprouts over samosas as evening snacks. They have started realising the valueofahealthydietandhavestartedmaking the right food choices.
